POLICE are hunting a pair of female thugs who attacked a man and woman in Livingston.

The incident occurred shortly after 4am as the couple were crossing the bridge over the River Almond early on Sunday morning.

Earlier that night they had left Club Earth on Howden South Road.

They were approached by two women who punched and kicked them, before hitting one of them on the head with a glass.

An ambulance was called and the couple were taken to St Johns Hospital, where they treated for their injuries.

Officers now want to trace the suspects, the first described as being female, white, 22 years old, 5’2 - 5’4 in height, slim build, straight red hair and who spoke with a local accent.

The second is also female, white, 22 years old, 5’2 - 5’4 and of slim build. She also spoke with a local accent.

Sergeant Adrian Wallis, who is leading the investigation, said: “This appears to have been an unprovoked attack on a couple who were simply walking home from a night out. We are keen to trace anyone who may have been in the area or leaving the club at the time of the incident, or anyone else with any information about this incident, to contact Police Scotland on 101. They can also contact us through the charity Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.”
