ORGANISERS of this year’s Festival of the Erotic Arts have made an urgent appeal for funds, after a flood destroyed their main gallery space.
The exhibition, featuring the work of local and submitting artists, was set to open on Monday, but organisers have now been forced to find an alternative venue.
And while they have found what was described as “the perfect city centre location” they have appealed for help to meet the costs, after being told they will not be recompensed for the problems caused by the flooding.
It is understood the flood, at an industrial space in the Old Town which was being converted to a gallery space, was caused by a plumbing problem.
In a statement on their website they said: “We urgently need £800, which may seem small, but to us, having invested so much already, it’s a mammoth amount.”
The festival is set to run from June 10-16, and donors have been asked to contribute anything from £1 to £200, with gifts such as signed books and postcards and tickets to other events being offered to anyone who gives money.
