Firefighters were called to a fire in an oven at a biscuit factory.

Three appliances from Sighthill were called to the Burton’s Biscuit Factory Edinburgh, in Bankhead Place, just after 8.40pm on Friday.

A blaze had broken out in an oven on the ground floor of the two-storey factory, which was affecting one of the 12 production lines.

Members of staff were evacuated from the building by firefighters.

A Burton’s spokesperson said: “We can confirm that there was a fire at the Burton’s Edinburgh site over the weekend affecting one of our 12 production lines, which was attended to by the emergency services.

“There were no casualties and all staff on site were safely evacuated.

“Burton’s has been working hard since the incident, in partnership with the fire brigade, to ensure that the site is safe and fully operational. Normal production has now been resumed.”

The fire was extinguished by 9.55pm.
