FOUR people were rescued by fire crews this morning after a blaze broke out in the stairwell of a four story tenement block of flats.

Crews from Tollcross, Marionville and MacDonald Road rushed to the address on Hope Park Crescent at 11.06 am, where four people were trapped on the third floor, and one has now been taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Services said breathing apparatus and a high pressure hose reel jet was used to extinguish the fire.

Three people were walked out of the property by fire crews using breathing apparatus while one person was rescued using a hydraulic platform from a third floor window.

Police Scotland are currently in attendance at the scene.
