WHEELIE bins which had been set on fire caused a blaze which almost spread to a petrol station in Linlithgow.
Police said several bins were set alight in a lane on Broomyhill Place at around 3.30am yesterday causing a paper recycling bin to also catch fire. The flames spread to a fence bordering the nearby Murco petrol station before it was put out.
No one was injured and the police are now investigating.
Detective Constable Ritchie Thompson said: “The fire was brought under control quickly by the fire service.
“However, this could have had far more serious consequences, had the flames reached the petrol station.
“We are keen to hear from anyone who can help us trace the persons involved in this mindless and reckless act and would urge those with information that can assist with our enquiries to contact police immediately.
“Similarly, anyone who remembers seeing anything suspicious in Broomyhill Place early on Wednesday morning is also asked to come forward.”
