FOUR people had to be rescued from a second-floor balcony by firefighters using a ladder after a blaze at their front door.

The occupants of the flat in Moat Drive called the fire brigade soon after 7pm last night and were advised by the call handler to go to the balcony. Fire crews from Tollcross and Sighthill attended.

One woman from the flat was taken to hospital suffering from the effects of smoke.

Police said the fire was being treated as suspicious and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
