AN elderly pilot from Edinburgh has been taken to hospital with a suspected back injury after his glider crashed as he tried to land.

The aircraft came down at around midday today as it was coming in to the Scottish Gliding Centre at Portmoak Airport in Scotlandwell village, Kinross, police said.

The pilot, a 75-year-old man from the Capital, was taken to the Royal Infirmary for treatment.

He is thought to have since been released.

The glider was “extensively damaged” in the crash, while no other gliders or people were involved, Police Scotland said.

The Air Accidents Investigations Branch has been informed and is expected to investigate the incident.
