A GRANDMOTHER was left stranded when Ryanair staff wrongly rejected her bus pass as ID on her flight home to Edinburgh.

Helen Trotter, 85, was stopped from boarding the flight at Stansted, Essex, despite using the permit to prove who she was on the outbound flight. Now relatives face a 12-hour trip to pick up Mrs Trotter and take her home to Hawick, Roxburgshire, as she refuses to return to the airport.

Daughter Irene, 53, of Edinburgh, said her mum had been left in tears. She said: “We got a call from a member of staff at Stansted saying that she was bawling her eyes out.”

A Ryanair spokesman apologised and offered a free flight “as a gesture of goodwill”.
