Don’t let sun go down on your summer glow

AS we wave goodbye to summer, the change of season doesn’t mean your summer glow has to disappear too. Because with some gentle modifications you can sort out skin, keeping it glowing even as the nights draw in.

First of all, taking care of skin and ensuring it is kept clean is one of the best ways to achieve a glow. And to this end, my Clarisonic brush has been a great buy. The range includes different brush sizes, including the latest Luxury Brush Head range, and there are different price points too.

Clarisonic brushes remove six times more make-up than the traditional cleansing methods and work almost like an electronic toothbrush but for skin.

If you don’t fancy forking out for a cleansing brush, then do invest in a cleanser and try to use twice a day; once in the morning and then again before bedtime with a double cleanse to remove any makeup, dirt or grime.

Turbo boost your skincare regime by adding a serum before your moisturiser. This will not only help add radiance but a serum, such as Origins new Plantscription Anti-Aging Power Serum, £48, reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Depending on your skin type, a gentle exfoliation at least once a week can help skin tone – preferably in the evening rather than in the morning. At its fastest, skin cell turnover is every 28 days. However, as we age this slows and by the time we reach 40 it is around every 40 days. Removing dead skin from the surface will instantly make it look brighter.

And don’t forget the skin on your body so try to find the time to moisturise daily. The Body Shop has recently launched the New Wild Argan Oil Bath and Bodycare range which includes the Miracle Solid Oil, £8, for extra-dry areas such as elbows and knees.

Beyond skincare, there are also plenty of make-up items to help create a bronzed and radiant look.

To this end, I’m a massive fan of the Radiance–Plus Golden Glow Booster by Clarins, £18. Simply add a few drops of this to your moisturiser, mix together in the palm of your hand, then apply the mixture all over your face. Be sure and wash hands after application to avoid any tell-tale staining but the result will have people commenting on your glow.

And products which contain light- reflecting properties are a cheater’s godsend for those looking to prolong any summer glow. Tom Ford’s new Traceless Perfecting Foundation SPF15 gives a natural finish, hydrating skin and staying in place throughout the day.

Use a champagne shade of highlighter to flatter and contour the face. For this look the Illuminator product by NARS, £22.50, comes in five shimmering shades. Apply where light naturally falls first onto the face; for example, along cheekbones and brow bones. But use sparingly because with too much, rather than radiant, it could emphasise any fine lines, making even youthful wearers look older.

And my final recommendation would be to keep any glow creation subtle and in keeping with the season. After all, we are no longer at the height of summer, so anything too heavy will look fake and stand out for all the wrong reasons.
