Andy Murray has been dubbed Diego “Murradona” after a video of him scoring a wonder goal during a five-a-side football match was shared online.
The clip, which shows Hibs fan Murray lobbing the goalkeeper from inside his own half during a kickaround in Glasgow, was shared on Twitter by @BritishTennis.
A Hibs spokesman said: “It was a fantastic strike from Andy – with finishing like that he wouldn’t look out of place on the Easter Road pitch!”
Britain’s finest tennis players, including Andy’s brother Jamie, are in Glasgow ahead of team GB’s Davis Cup tie against Argentina in the city this weekend. The five-a-side match appears to feature other team members, along with several coaches.
Murray shared the image on his own Facebook account, with the hashtags “lobbed” and “vision”.
Several Twitter users were quick to praise Murray, and suggested that he could have an alternative career in football. Murray has admitted in the past that he had the opportunity to train with Rangers’ when younger, but was too committed to his tennis. He said in 2009: “I played for Gairdoch, which was a feeder club for Rangers. I was asked to do some training with Rangers but by then I was committed towards my tennis – and I think I might have made the right decision.”
