The Princess Royal has placed a commemorative stone plaque at the entrance of a purpose-built home designed for people with learning disabilities.
Princess Anne is patron of charity L’Arche Edinburgh’s appeal to raise £1 million for the two-storey property in Restalrig.
John Redwood, director of L’Arche Edinburgh, said: “We are delighted that the Princess Royal has taken the time to see our new house being built.
“It is an innovative project that ensures a better quality of life for people with learning disabilities as they grow older, with round-the-clock care in a small-scale, homely setting.”
The eight-bedroom property, which should be finished by January, will be home to four support assistants, who will live in the house alongside four people with disabilities that the charity works with.
