FORMER Labour leader Iain Gray has taken a senior post with a Hibs community charity project.

Mr Gray, who resigned as Labour leader after the last election, has been appointed chair of the Hibernian Community Foundation.

The organisation, which is linked to the Edinburgh club, aims to improve health, learning and opportunities for fans.

Last year it created more than 100,000 opportunities for football fans including literacy, IT, fitness and weight loss programmes, according to the foundation.

Mr Gray, MSP for East Lothian and currently Labour finance spokesman, said: “This is a great opportunity for me to build on the success that the Foundation has had in a relatively short period since it was created.

“The Hibernian Community Foundation has grown at a remarkable rate over the past few years and is now making a positive difference to many people’s lives.

“I firmly believe that football clubs like Hibernian must now be about so much more than just the game on Saturday”.
