A minute’s applause has been held at Ibrox in memory of a young Edinburgh soldier who died while on holiday with friends.

Hearts fans had asked for the tribute for their fellow supporter Private Shaun Cole who was found lying in a pool of his own blood in Miami, Florida, last weekend.

Jambos winger Jamie Walker, a friend of Mr Cole’s, wore a black armband and at the end of the matchm, which Hearts lost 2-1, he revealed a T-shirt bearing the words ‘RIP Shaun Cole’.

Big-hearted football fans from across the city launched the online campaign to see the soldier honoured during the 22nd minute of the game between Hearts and Rangers.

And both sets of supporters joined in the tribute.
