A FITNESS instructor is to run his first marathon to help a charity he learned about through one of his students.

Alan King, 56, will run the Edinburgh Marathon for Blind Veterans UK, a charity championed by Thea Davies, who attends his spin class.

Thea’s partner Captain Stephen Healey also supported the charity until his death in May 2012. He was serving with the 1st Battalion the Royal Welsh when he was killed by an IED in Afghanistan.

Alan, who works at a fitness club in Cardiff, says: “I met Thea when she joined my spin class and she told me about her running challenge. I was so impressed to hear about it and knew that I wanted to help out in some way.”
