INVESTIGATIONS are continuing into the death of a one-year-old girl who stopped breathing at her nursery.

The 13-month-old was rushed to hospital from Careshare’s Port Hamilton Nursery in Morrison Street after she was found by one of the staff on Wednesday.

An ambulance was called immediately and she was taken to the Sick Kids Hospital but could not be revived despite the best efforts of medical staff.

The nursery was still shut today as the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death continues.
Marg Randles, managing director at Busy Bees Nurseries, the parent group of Careshare, said: “Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with the family at this very sad time. We will do all we can to support the family and those affected by this tragedy and we are working alongside all the relevant agencies to help find the cause.”

Busy Bees, which took the decision to close the nursery, is in contact with parents and making alternative arrangements wherever possible.
