A TEENAGER has been robbed of his iPod by a mugger pretending to be an undercover police officer who suspected the youngster of buying drugs.
The 16-year-old was walking along Glendevon Park in Balgreen at about 1.30pm on Monday when the suspect approached him.
When the teenager emptied his pockets to prove he had not been buying drugs, the man grabbed his iPod and told him to go home. The suspect is described as being white, mid-20s, tall, bald and was wearing beige chinos, a grey hooded top and a body warmer with the letters ‘JW’ on it.
After walking off with the iPod, the man got into the passenger side of a grey Skoda car, which may have been displaying black and white taxi plates, before the vehicle drove off.
Constable Robert Finch said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area of Glendevon Park on Monday afternoon, and who may recognise the description to contact us. We would also like to take this opportunity to reassure people that police officers will always show their warrant cards as a means of identification.”
