A MAN who repeatedly stabbed his sister’s boyfriend has been jailed for three years.
Cairin McGarry inflicted seven wounds on Patrick Galt during the disturbance at a flat in Armadale in West Lothian.
The 20-year-old victim was later found by police and taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he told a doctor that he had been attacked with a kitchen knife 11 hours earlier.
Unemployed McGarry, 24, was originally charged with attempting to murder Mr Galt in the attack on November 18 last year in Shaw Avenue.
But the Crown accepted his guilty plea to a reduced charge of assaulting him to severe injury by repeatedly striking him on the body with the knife.
Advocate depute Stephen O’Rourke said the two men had been friends for years but Mr Galt’s relationship with McGarry’s sister had led to “friction between them”.
