A LEADING police officer has said victims of historic abuse have been given the confidence to come forward by the publicity surrounding the sexual abuse by the late Jimmy Savile.

The “Savile Effect” was referred to by Chief Inspector Colin Brown, Police Scotland’s East Lothian area commander, at a community partnership meeting. He said: “There’s been a lot more reporting of historic incidents due to all the publicity. We have experienced that in East Lothian.”
