JK ROWLING has revealed she has been burgled twice, in a message of support to friend and crime writer, Val McDermid.

Ms McDermid, 60, took to Twitter on Monday to blast those who broke into her Stockport home over the weekend and stole her car.

Harry Potter author JK Rowling, who owns a property in Edinburgh, responded with a message of sympathy and said she had also been burgled twice.

She wrote: “You *were* being moderate. Really hope you’re ok?

“It’s happened to me twice and it’s horrible.”

Rowling has spoken in the past of her heartbreak after her mother’s jewellery was stolen from her home months after her death.

She said she was left “devastated” by the raid on her Manchester flat when she was 25-years-old.

In a series of tweets, the award-winning Ms McDermid said that her home had been left with a broken window and “nothing trashed”.

She wrote: “I’m fine, thanks. I’m actually on tour in the US so I got the, ‘Darling, why isn’t the car in the drive?’ call.”
