BISCUIT firm Burton’s has announced 64 job losses at its factory in Sighthill.
The company said it was looking for employees to take voluntary redundancy at the site, which makes Wagon Wheels and Jammie Dodgers.
It is understood more than 800 permanent and agency staff work at the factory.
The company was meeting with representatives from the GMB Union today ahead of a 30-day consultation process.
A company spokesman said: “Burton’s Biscuits Company continually reviews its business to identify the changes that are required to improve capability and competitiveness and 64 roles will regrettably be made redundant at Burton’s Edinburgh facility.”
The job cuts come three years after a £5 million investment in the site to improve chocolate biscuit production at the site.
The factory makes Cadbury, Maryland, Jamie Dodgers, Wagon Wheels, Lyons, Cathedral Baked Bites and Fish ‘n Chips biscuits.
