A KILLER jailed for strangling his mother and dismembering her body is to challenge his conviction.

James Dunleavy, who buried the remains of 66-year-old Philomena in a shallow grave, was sentenced last month to nine years for culpable homicide.

Experts had found the 41-year-old mentally fit to serve his time despite suffering from schizophrenia.

A medic told the High Court that Dunleavy “believed his mother was a reptile and the only way to check was to look inside her body”.
