Lady Provost Elaine Brand has donated hundreds of pounds to housing and homelessness charity Shelter Scotland.
Shelter Scotland said the cash was enough to help more than 50 families and individuals through its free national helpline.
The £550 donation was originally made by the Merchant Company of the City of Edinburgh to the Lord and Lady Provost, who decided to hand it over in full to Shelter Scotland.
The Lady Provost has previously volunteered for the charity in its Morningside shop helping staff and volunteers.
She said: “The Lord Provost and I were extremely grateful to the Merchant Company for their generous donation and I was delighted to pass the cheque on to Graeme Brown (director of Shelter Scotland).
“Having seen firsthand the tremendous work that Shelter Scotland do for homeless and badly housed people across Edinburgh, I felt this was a fitting and worthwhile cause – one that I am committed to supporting throughout my five years as Lady Provost.”
