A MOTORIST who was late for work sped away from police and drove round the wrong side of “keep left” bollards on a road notorious for head-on collisions.

Traffic police chased David Witcombe along the A89 Newbridge to Bathgate route as he drove at “excessive” speeds.

They saw his sporty red Peugeot 306 XSi overtake dangerously, forcing other drivers to take evasive action, Livingston Sheriff Court heard.

Witcombe, 24, also went through a red light.

Witcombe, from Uphall Station, was found guilty of dangerous driving after a trial yesterday.

He had denied speeding at more than 80mph in a 50mph limit, driving on the wrong side of the road past “keep left” bollards and going through a red light on the A89 near Broxburn.

The self-employed tradesman was fined £750, banned from driving for a year and ordered to resit an extended driving test before being allowed back behind the wheel.
