A NIGHT manager at a four-star George Street hotel was caught on CCTV with his fingers in the till
Mark Flay, 36, embezzled £18,000 from the Le Monde boutique hotel – voted the eighth trendiest in Britain last year.
When Flay, of Dargai Place, Uphall, was confronted over the theft, he drove a colleague to a bank and gave him £7940 before handing himself in to police.
Fiscal Depute Karon Rollo told Edinburgh Sheriff Court that the night manager was caught when the hotel’s IT boss watched CCTV footage after spotting cash missing.
She said that Flay was summoned to a meeting, where he admitted embezzling £18,000 – today, he pleaded guilty to the charge in court and will be sentenced next month.
Ms Rollo said: “He drove a staff member in a motor vehicle he said he had purchased using some of the money to a Bank of Scotland branch, where he withdrew £7490 in cash and handed it over.”
Defence solicitor, Paul Cannavan, told Sheriff Paul Arthurson QC that his client had no previous convictions.
