An appeal has been made for information to help track down any overlooked memorials to those from Midlothian who died in the First World War.
It comes as the Midlothian Library Service prepares for next year’s centenary of the outbreak of the First World War. Research into individual names will then be used to create an online Roll of Honour for the county.
Many First World War casualties appear on more than one memorial whilst other names were never recorded, despite the fact that their deaths were mentioned in local newspapers.
Midlothian Council leader Bob Constable said: “The online database will become a great resource for family history and also will help to preserve memories of the fallen. It is important to remember those who died.”
