Lloyds Banking Group plans to open new Halifax branches in Scotland.

The news comes after the bank yesterday confirmed it would cut 9000 jobs across the UK and reduce its branches by 150 in a move to online banking.

Halifax and Bank of Scotland merged in 2001 to form HBOS – but when the bank became part of the Lloyds group in 2009 the two were seperated once again, and Halifax branches grew rare in Scotland. There are currently only three in Scotland, in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
