A CAPITAL soldier who was killed in a roadside bomb attack in Afghanistan has been honoured by the city’s Lord Provost.

Private Robert (Bobby) Hetherington was educated at Craigmount High School and served with 51st Highland, 7th Battalion the Royal Regiment of Scotland (7 Scots).

The infantryman was out on patrol this week when he was killed – alongside two colleagues – when their armoured vehicle was struck by an
explosive.

Corporal William Savage and Fusilier Samuel Flint also died in the attack.

Lord Provost Donald Wilson said: “It is a terrible tragedy when a member of the armed forces loses their life in service of this country and we feel it even more keenly when that person is one of Edinburgh’s own. Our hearts go out to
Pte Hetherington’s family at this very sad time.”
