A LORRY driver has been taken to hospital after his vehicle overturned and spilled its cargo of live sheep onto a Lothian road.
Medics and fire crews rushed to the scene of the incident on the A6094 between Rosewell and Howgate after emergency calls were received at around 12.20pm.
They said the male driver had managed to escape from the lorry by the time of their arrival and was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
It is not known how serious his injuries are.
Fire crews also said the driver’s firm dispatched a replacement vehicle so crowds of sheep which were blocking the road could be rounded up and removed.
It is understood that a police closure of the road remains in place.
There were no reports of serious sheep injuries or fatalities.
