A JACK-KNIFED lorry caused rush-hour gridlock on the M8 today.

Long tailbacks were reported on the east-bound carriageway after the incident close to junction 3, the Bathgate turn-off.

Police said the lorry had jack-knifed soon after 6am, no-one had been injured and the problem appeared to be a mechanical fault with the vehicle.

A spokesman said both east-bound lanes were closed around 8am to allow recovery of the lorry.
