POLICE are hunting three men who assaulted and robbed a man outside a city park.

The 28-year-old was by the entrance of Haugh Park on Longstone Road at 1am on Saturday when he was approached.

There was a struggle and the victim was kicked in the stomach before the trio made off with his rucksack.

Officers are now urging anyone who can assist with their enquiries to come forward.

The first suspect is described as white, early thirties, 5ft 11ins tall with a heavy build, blond hair and a blond beard. He was wearing a white and blue hooded top, jeans and white trainers.

The second suspect was white, 25-30-years-old, 6ft tall with a skinny built, blond spikey hair and gaunt face, and was wearing a white and grey striped shirt and jeans.

The third man was described as being of Indian or Pakistani appearance, in his mid-twenties, 5ft 7ins tall with a skinny build and short black hair. He was wearing a light blue polo shirt and dark trousers.

Detective Sergeant Kevin Harkins said: “Fortunately the victim didn’t sustain serious injury but was left understandably upset at the theft of his rucksack.

“Anyone who remembers seeing any suspicious activity in the Longstone Road area in the early hours of Saturday morning is asked to contact police immediately.

“In addition, anyone who recognises the description of the suspects or who has any other information relevant to this investigation is urged to get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
