POLICE are investigating after a random attack on a man standing outside a Leith Walk pub in the early hours of the morning.

The victim was with his partner outside the City Limits bar, which was closed at the time, at around 3am on Sunday when he was approached by a man who struck him on the face.

The suspect then threatened to stab him with a knife, which was not seen by the victim. A number of witnesses stopped to offer assistance and the suspect continued to walk up Leith Walk.

The victim was taken to hospital with a broken jaw.

The suspect is described as white, in his 30s, around 6ft tall, medium build, shaggy dark hair which is long on top, unshaven, wearing jeans and a dark jacket and spoke with an Irish accent.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 101.
