A man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder after an 85-year-old woman was found with serious injuries at her home.

The pensioner was taken to hospital after she was found at the property in Edinburgh’s Morningside area on July 11.

Robert Buczek, 23, was charged with attempted murder and assault to severe injury and danger of life when he appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today.

He made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.

The incident at the women’s home shocked the local community. The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was found with serious injuries by her horrified husband when he returned home.

Police who flooded the area with officers after she was attacked and confirmed today they were also still active in the community.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police Scotland will continue to work with our partners to offer reassurance to the community and high visibility patrols will still be present in the area.

“Police would like to thank the public for their patience while we carried out enquiries in relation to this incident.”
