A MAN has died after falling into the Water of Leith on Monday.

Now police are searching for a man who tried in vain to save his life.

Officers are appealing for information to find the male who pulled the drowning man from the water.

The man later died at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. A report will now be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Police Sergeant Donna Mackay said: “Our condolences are with the friends and family of the victim who passed away, despite the valiant efforts of these five good Samaritans.

“We are eager to trace the final male witness as part of our enquiries. We would asked this man, or anyone who may know who he is, to contact police as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
