A MAN has died after plunging from a block of flats onto a street in Leith.

Stunned onlookers gathered after police taped off Cables Wynd at Yardheads, near the Tesco on Great Junction Street, for several hours after the incident last night.

Forensics teams scoured the area for evidence after reports the man, who has not been named, had fallen from an upstairs window.

Staff at the Tesco store said they were first alerted to the incident by the sirens and flashing lights of an ambulance and police cars.

A security guard said: “The first we knew of it was when the ambulance arrived and there were all the flashing lights.”

The body was covered with a sheet and a white forensics tent erected to preserve the scene for police.

An ambulance spokeswoman confirmed they had been called to the scene shortly after 6pm and left three hours later.

Police officers said there were no suspicious circumstances.
