A MAN has appeared in court accused of murdering a joiner who was found dead in his secluded country cottage last year.
Gordon Veitch appeared in private at Haddington Sheriff Court yesterday charged with the murder of Brian Bathgate.
Mr Bathgate, 45, was found dead in the living room of his cottage at Barney Mains Farm on the outskirts of Haddington, East Lothian, on March 15 last year.
The body of the father-of-four was discovered by his brother Roy after his family had become concerned he had not been in touch or had turned up for work at a local building company.
Mr Veitch, 54, made no plea or declaration and the case was continued for further examination during his short court appearance and he was released on bail.
Mr Veitch, from Haddington, East Lothian, will return to court to face the murder charge on a date still to be determined.
