Police in East Lothian are appealing for witnesses after a man was seriously assaulted as he walked home in Port Seton.

The 41-year-old had been drinking at the Wemyss Hotel on Monday and was going into his house in Barracks Road at 5.45pm when he was hit from behind.He was left with head and face injuries and was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Detective Inspector Samantha Ainslie, who is leading the investigation, said: “This was a serious and sustained attack on a man who was severely beaten, and who unfortunately is unable to give us any description of his assailant. I am appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident, or knows anything about it, to call police.”
