Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was attacked and robbed as he walked to work on Easter Road early on Sunday morning.

The man was attacked around 5.30am opposite the B&Q site. He was robbed of his money by another man, who made off down Easter Road towards Leith Links.

Detective Constable Gavin Watson of Police Scotland, who is leading the inquiry, said: “This was a vicious and unprovoked robbery carried out on a man who was simply walking to his work. He did not see who hit him, and has been unable to provide any description of the attacker, who left him requiring hospital treatment.

“I am keen to speak to a lady who came to the victim’s aid, and would appeal for anyone who was in the Easter Road area between 5.30am and 6am this morning and saw anyone acting suspiciously to contact Police Scotland on 101 or through Crimestioppers on 0800 555 111.”
