A MAN threw a live turtle out of his first floor flat window during an alleged battle with police.

Lee Seifert is said to have thrown the terrapin at officers during the confrontation at his Edinburgh home earlier this year.

Seifert is also alleged to have flung a pair of scissors, a blood-stained knife and a pole out of his window during the stand-off.

The 32-year-old, described as a prisoner of Edinburgh Prison, also faces charges of threatening to blow his home up and to setting fire to clothing during the incident in the Hutchison area in west of the capital.

Seifert appeared from custody at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday where he denied the eight charges against him.

He will return to the capital court to stand trial later this month.

Siefert denies assaulting an Asda staff member, behaving in a threatening or abusive manner, threatening to blow up his own home and uttering threats of violence to police officers.

He also pleaded not guilty to throwing an array of items, including the terrapin, out of a first floor window, setting fire to clothing and assaulting a patient at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital, all in September this year.
