THE man who died following a fire at Wester Hailes Park has been named as Ian George Peat, 62.

The fire investigators are now combing the ground floor flat in Wester Hailes to establish the cause though the blaze is not being treated as suspicious.

A police spokeswoman said: “Police are carrying out inquiries into a fire in Wester Hailes Park, in which a man was found injured and later pronounced dead in hospital.”

Crews from Sighthill and Tollcross fire stations were called to the scene around 1.30pm.

A spokesman from the fire service said: “One male casualty was discovered as crews searched the property; he had suffered from smoke inhalation and was unresponsive.

“Fire and ambulance personnel worked together on the casualty at the scene and he was subsequently transferred to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary in a critical condition.”
