A PERVERT who was convicted of having sex with a 14-year-old girl he picked up in his car on Hogmanay has lost an appeal against his sentence.
Shehzad Ashraf was 31 years old when he stopped to pick up the teenager on Captain’s Road in Gracemount on December 31, 2008.
The teenager had left her foster carers to celebrate New Year in the city centre, and her worried guardians had reported her missing.
Ashraf took her to a house, gave her alcohol, then the pair had consensual sex, Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard when he appeared to face the charges in August 2010.
Ashraf was given 240 hours of community service, but appealed against the sentence, claiming it was “excessive and inappropriate”.
But Lord Carloway refused his appeal when the case was heard at the Appeal Court in Edinburgh.
