POLICE are hunting two masked men who attempted to hold-up a security van in Bathgate.

The pair struck outside the Bank of Scotland on Hopetoun Street around noon on Tuesday as the driver of the G4S van left the bank.

Police said a white Volkswagen Golf stopped in the middle of the road beside the van with one of the robbers jumping out and attempting to steal the cash box from the driver.

He fled empty handed and made off in the car which was driven by another man.

Detective Inspector Raymond Brown from Police Scotland said: “While the victim wasn’t injured, he was left understandably shaken as a result of what happened, and we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

“Likewise we would like to hear from anyone who was in the area, who may have noticed the suspect or vehicle either before or after the incident took place, or who recognises the descriptions.”

The first robber is described as a white, 6ft 2in, big build of approximately 15 to 16 stone, with facial growth/stubble and wearing a black top. A second man was seen driving the Volkswagon and he too had his face covered.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101.
