A vigil was held last night to mark what would have been the fourth birthday of toddler Mikaeel Kular.
Locals lit candles in their homes and some gathered in Muirhouse, where the youngster had lived with his family until he was reported missing in January.
And plans for a permanent memorial are also being discussed, after residents raised £3000 towards a tribute.
Community members who gathered at the evening vigil at St Andrew’s church in the capital were asked to give suggestions on how the money should be spent.
Robert Pearson, chairman of the Tenants and Residents of Muirhouse group, said the youngster’s “spirit continues to shine strongly in the community”.
Mikaeel’s mother, Rosdeep, 33, has been charged with his murder.
