The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has confirmed that training exercises involving the firing of live ammunition and discharge of pyrotechnics will take place in Edinburgh on three dates in the last week of August.

Numerous Edinburgh residents reported hearing ‘loud bangs’ on the morning of August 24, and the MoD has revealed plans for further training exercises on August 28, 30 and 31.

On all three dates, live ammunition will be fired between the hours of 9am and 4pm, while pyrotechnics can be discharged at any time.

Training exercises involving the discharge of pyrotechnics but no firing of live ammunition will take place on August 25-27, as well as on August 29.

The exercises will primarily take place at Dreghorn Training Area and the Castlelaw Ranges in Penicuik.

The MoD has stressed that the dates and timings may change.

The public have also been warned not to enter the training areas during the times listed.
