A young motorcyclist who was found dead on a walkway was named by police today.

Daniel Baird, 20, was discovered next to his vehicle in Edinburgh shortly before 6pm last night.

He had serious head injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

Police said his family had asked for privacy.

An 18-year-old man who had been on the motorcycle with him also suffered serious leg injuries.

Police said they think the motorcycle may have collided with a tree and are looking for witnesses.

The accident happened on the walkway running from the old “Big W” car park at the Milton Link to The Jewel in the Magdalene area of Edinburgh.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: “While the two men were discovered at 5.45am, we have yet to determine exactly when the incident took place.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who may have seen two men riding a motorcycle in the area in the early hours of bank holiday Monday May 7.

“We are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident, however we need to fully establish the circumstances.

“We would appeal to anyone who may have any information about the incident to contact us immediately.”
