HEALTH chiefs have reported a reduction in sickness absence rates among NHS Lothian staff.
At a meeting of the health board’s finance and performance review committee, it was said that over the latest period an average of 3.96 per cent of staff were off sick.
During the same period in the previous year, the average sickness rate hit 4.38 per cent.
However, it was noted at the meeting that sickness rates remained high among some staff groups.
In May last year the health board, which has around 28,000 workers, announced it was to “hunt down” staff who played the system and took regular days off.
