A nine year old boy has been taken to hospital following a collision with a black taxi on Princes Street.

The incident happened just outside the Balmoral Hotel at roughly 3.45pm in front of shocked crowds.

The boy was treated at the scene by paramedics and is understood to have suffered only minor injuries, including a grazed elbow and some bruising.

He was taken by ambulance to The Sick Kids Hospital as a precaution however.

The street outside The Balmoral Hotel was briefly closed following the incident, but reopened at 4.10pm.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Police in Edinburgh responded at 3.45pm on Friday 15th November following reports of a road collision involving a 9 year old child and a black cab.

“The child was taken to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children to be checked over as a precaution and the road was closed for approximately half an hour.”
