AN ELDERLY man has suffered a serious head injury after being knocked down in a supermarket car park.

The incident occurred At Tesco, Olive Bank Road, Musselburgh shortly after 10.20am and involved four vehicles in total.

It is understood a motorist crashed into a parked car which resulted in two more cars being shunted forward and striking the pensioner.

Emergency services raced to the scene and the car park was immediately sealed off.

Paramedics found the man to have suffered severe injuries to both his head and legs.

He was concious and breathing and transferred to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

A spokeswoman for Fire Scotland said: “We received a call to a four vehicle shunt within the Tesco car park in Musselburgh. Two unoccupied cars were pushed over the gentleman and firefighters worked to make them safe.

“Firefighters also administered oxygen to the man and he was later transferred to hospital.”
