POLICE today warned that specialist officers will be out in force for tomorrow’s city derby to deal with football-related disorder

A sell-out crowd is expected at Tynecastle for the Hearts versus Hibs clash, and police have said that “a robust presence will be in place to ensure the game passes without incident”.

Officers from the Football Co-ordination Unit for Scotland will join Lothian and Borders Police to look out for criminal activity in the crowd.

It follows a swoop on alleged hooligans yesterday in Edinburgh and East Lothian following violence between fans at last weekend’s Scottish Cup match between Hibs and Ayr.

Four men were arrested and are set to appear at Ayr Sheriff Court on Monday.

Inspector Alan Bowie said: “We are committed to ensuring the day is not ruined by a minority of individuals who act aggressively, sing bigoted songs or display offensive banners.”
