Have your say

HOPE you all had a great Christmas. The festivities are not over yet, with lots of food, fun and frolicking still going on.

We lose track of time when Christmas Day and New Year’s Day fall on a Thursday – everyone is in constant holiday mode.

I have been enjoying a visit from my dear friends the Frosts, Stephen, his wife Janet, and daughter Poppy. Stephen’s birthday is on December 28, so the party just keeps going.

Stephen, pictured, is better know for his appearances on Whose Line is it Anyway? and seems to be recognised the world over from the days when his improvisation was on TV all the time – it still is on BBC Gold and regularly in the USA.

Stephen is 6ft 4in tall and has a friendliness that everyone adores. He loves coming to Edinburgh, because of all the time he has spent here in the Festival, but also the times he has spent in some of the best Scottish pubs in Scotland.

On his birthday he invited us all to Kay’s Bar, which is in Jamaica Street. It is a wonderful little pub that is still the same as it was 20 years ago. A lovely log fire and a chatty landlord, well worth a visit.

Other pubs Stephen can be seen fraternising in are The Café Royal, Bennets Bar, The Barony, Clarks Bar and not forgetting the Oxford Bar. They are all pubs that have that special something that only good beer drinkers understand.

The best part for the family though is enjoying Stephen’s very loud company at this time of year. Everyone laughs a lot at very corny jokes. This year we had the pleasure of Ian Coppinger at the birthday celebrations.

Ian is a very funny Irishman who performs improv with Stephen, and was appearing at The Stand. We had such a laugh, all the family awaiting the arrival of Stephen and Ian walked in first, as if he was Stephen – well you had to be there really.

Have a wonderful Hogmanay, wherever you are!
