Have your say

WE urged readers to help make it a Christmas number one – and now we can report that Christmas Gibbons by Adam Bojelian is on the right track.

Adam, a 12-year-old who can only communicate by blinking, wrote the song with LA-based composer Tom Harrison, and is celebrating after it broke into the top 20 of the UK Kids Music Chart.

Every download of the song, which has been endorsed by Hollywood star Ewan McGregor, sees 50p donated to the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland.

Hibees on his mind

YOU can take the boy away from Hibs, but you’ll never take Hibs away from the boy.

That could be Irvine Welsh’s mantra after he posted this picture on Twitter while enjoying a ball game of an entirely different kind.

From his new home in Chicago, the Trainspotting author has been enjoying American Football, taking regular trips to Soldier Field to follow the Bears.

But, as this snap of a kindred spirit shows, his Easter Road idols are clearly never far from his mind.

Let battle commence

IT was given the green light amid protests from local residents – but it seems the new Sainsbury’s planned for Portobello is benefiting neighbouring consumers before it’s even opened.

One Talk of the Town reader from the seaside town reports that a nearby Co-op store has seriously upped its game since the supermarket giant won the go-ahead.

Extended opening hours and the dishing out of money-off vouchers are all part of its charm offensive to keep shoppers from having their heads turned.

Watching the detectives

STEP aside Rebus, there’s a new man getting his hands dirty on the Capital’s crime beat.

Edinburgh sleuth Inspector Anthony McLean is the brainchild of writer James Oswald – a farmer by day.

When he’s not out in the fields, James is busy churning up mysteries for his character to solve.

After internet success publishing his own work, James, who lives in Fife, has just landed a deal with Penguin. That’s, presumably, because Insp McLean knows how to find a needle in a haystack.
